One moment – getting ready at Veritas

Veritas weddings are so special to us, simply because they are in our own backyard, close to the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia.  Chloe and her staff can be commended constantly for their tireless work ethic and exceptional standards.  Ashley and Seth are good friends and I was honored beyond belief when Ashley asked if I would document her wedding day.  These two are so classy and a sincere pleasure to be around.  The image above is taken with a wide angle lens as the girls were discussing how beautiful the venue looked and how excited everyone was to be a part of the day.  This photograph was taken with total available light (no flash) and a slight warm tone has been added.  I love everything about this image….the make-up being applied, the mirror, the bridesmaids and bride looking out of the window, the tone, the dodging and burning, the dynamic range of high speed film, etc.  Posting this allows me to write about how much I love the traditional darkroom film look.  Even though we shoot our wedding with Canon digital SLR cameras, allowing us to have many of the modern conveniences of the format, I am a huge fan of printing with an approach no different from the artistic nature of the black and white films.  These are printed the exact same way as I would approach film in the darkroom, but without the chemicals.  Preparing one image from each event for the blog allows us to focus on the art of printing and this image allowed me to duplicate that look and feel of this timeless approach.  Enjoy!
